The LOIS Rivers Data Centre assembled a large water
quality database from many sources and suppliers. As there were few standards for water
quality data LOIS developed its own covering terminology, units and coding. LOIS
has also highlighted the fact that many of the existing lists of algae, macrophytes and
invertebrates and other species were out of date and needed revision. Remedying this situation was beyond the resources available within LOIS, but the Rivers Data centre was able to make two major contributions in the form of:
